Common Errors & Issue I Can’t File an Extension

Modified on Tue, 3 Jan, 2023 at 11:38 AM

Scenario: An Employee or Taxpayer is trying to file an extension and can’t

This can be a vague situation so focus on the most common items to check.

Check the following items:

  • Confirm that the filing code is allowed to accept Extensions. Settings / Business Filing / Filing Codes.  Edit the Filing Code in use and confirm that the Allow Extension is checked and the extension months has a number in it.  Also, confirm the Allow Estimated Payment is checked if desired.

  • You can not push the extension button AFTER the Filing START button has been pushed.  The solution would be for employee to delete the filing record and add a single filing entry back on so you can push the Extension button.

  • If the Extension is Turned on, then the user needs to supply more information about what is not working to support.

    • The extension process is simple.  The User or Taxpayer pushes the Extension button and the system will update the past due date based on the default months in the setup area.  The system will then allow for an estimated payment to be processed if turned on.

    • If you add a test filing entry and push Extension and it doesn’t do anything, then notify support of the PIDN tested on and a support member will assist.

If the above instructions do not solve your issue then contact support and the ticket will be elevated.
