In this Knowledgebase (KB) Article it will walk you through the process of returning a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) payment within iGovServices

You will learn:

  • How to process a return and mark the return as NSF.

First you will need to be logged into iGovServices. On the black navigation bar to the left
in iGovServices, navigate to:
Payments → Returns → Return Receipt
(If you do not see this menu item, please contact your administrator to provide the appropriate rights)

Receiving a returned check due to non-sufficient funds will happen from time to time. The process to return the receipt to its unpaid status as well as marking it as NSF is easy within iGovServices.

Note:  If the session with the returned check has been finalized you will have to do a return with iGovServices software. If You have not balanced the session you would void the charge. These two processes can be found under the Payments button located on the black navigation bar in the far left of your screen.

There are two ways to get the receipt number so you can return the NSF charges. The first is to navigate to the account that has the NSF charge and on the PIDN homepage in the upper left corner you will see dropdown called View. Use the dropdown and select the Receipts button.

The view Receipts screen will open and you will see a list of receipt(s). Locate the desired receipt and you will see the receipt number as shown above by the red arrow. You will want to write this down.

The second way to locate the desired receipt number is to look at the receipt for the payment. The red arrow in the image above shows where it can be found.

To return the receipt, putting it back to being unpaid in iGovServices, click the Payments button on the black navigation bar located at the far left of the screen. Then locate and click the Return button and then Return Receipt.

The above image show the Return Receipt Page. Enter the receipt number in the field above marked by a red arrow and click Submit. The information will populate in the lower portion of the screen showing the information on the charge that is being returned.

If the information is correct, click return.

After selecting return, and Are you Sure? the alert will appear. At this time you may enter a reason for the returning of this receipt as well as stamping it as NSF by clicking YES or not NSF by choosing no.

The last step is to click the green Return Receipt button. This will return the charge back to its unpaid status so that it can be taken again when a new check is received.

After the return receipt is finished you will see on the receipt that there is a notice of 'Returned Receipt' as shown in the above image by the red arrow.

You will also notice that on the current charge screen, there will be an NSF charge line added to the account. You will have to make sure that you have a rate code for NSF and the amount must be greater than zero.

If you do not have a NSF rate code create one and manually add it to the account.
