Why will my PDF's Not Launch? (Article)

Modified on Wed, 10 Jan at 11:25 AM

It is not uncommon for PDFs to not launch. This can be caused for various reasons, all of witch have simple solutions that can be done from your browser settings or within iGovServices. Below you will find the most common solutions to launch a PDF when an error occurs along with the reason behind the issue.

Pop-Up Blocker - A pop-up blocker within your browser keeps most sites from opening pop-up windows while browsing the internet. If you are trying to launch a PDF for the first time in iGov, the browser may believe that the PDF is a pop-up and will therefor block it to prevent any potentially malicious activity. Correcting this is very simple. In the top right corner of your screen (next to the address bar) a red 'X' may show. Simply click this icon and click 'Always allow'. This will tell your browser that iGov is allowed to launch a PDF and is not malicious. Remember - after doing this refresh your screen and launch the PDF again.

Adobe Acrobat is Turned On - Many users have Adobe Acrobat installed. With this extension any PDF that is trying to be launched will first try to go through Adobe Acrobat, and will not work properly. To fix this, click on your 'Extensions' button and turn off Adobe Acrobat.

Memory - Downloading a large number of PDF's can take up lot of memory. Files are digitally stored on your device as you are doing your day to day activities, and after some time may need to be cleared in order to download more files, including PDFs. As an employee you can create more space by navigating to: Dashboards > Admin > Maintenance. This section of the dashboard allows the user to delete previous PDF's in order to make more space for future downloads.
